Why won't my image or video upload?

The most common reasons an upload fails — file size, video format, Meta connection, processing, and Google Drive.

Most upload problems come down to a handful of causes. Work through these in order — the first few fix the majority of cases.

1. File size

Very large files are the most common reason an upload fails, and videos are the usual culprit. Meta's limits are 30 MB for images and 4 GB for videos — if a file won't go through, it's more likely a format issue (see below) than the size limit itself. That said, very large video files (even under 4 GB) can take longer to process or get stuck — see "Upload stuck on processing" below. If a file is oversized, re-export or compress it (most editors, or a tool like Canva, can do this).

2. Video format

Meta doesn't accept every video codec. If your video is exported as H.265 / HEVC, re-export it as H.264 in an MP4 container — that's the most widely supported format.

3. Lost Meta connection

If uploads suddenly stop working, your Meta connection may have dropped. Reconnect under Settings → Connections, then try the upload again.

4. Upload stuck on "processing"

Large videos can sit in a processing state while Meta finishes handling them. Give it a few minutes, refresh, and check your upload history before re-uploading — the file often appears once processing completes.

5. Google Drive imports

If the file is coming from Google Drive and won't import, reconnect Google Drive, or download the file to your computer and upload it locally. See Upload creatives from Google Drive for the full flow.
